With the water receding Rue quickly dismisses the pseudonatural sharks before they're in danger of drowning. Once she and Copper are able to touch ground again they both scamper up the ladder to join Toerag. Rues heals the group and they take a moment to prepare themselves before moving on. They find they have to pull the lever again and raise the water before the cylinder they stand on is high enough to reach the stone platform.
Once they have done this they move quickly over the platform, eager to be away from the water lest another monster come to snatch at them again. The door at the end of the platform proves to be locked and Toerag is unable to open it, even when Taking 20 on the attempt. Burning through the thick door's lock with Copper's Dragon Breath takes nearly two minutes, during which the team anxiously await a seemingly inevitable attack by whatever lies beyond. Amazingly they break through with nothing coming to kill them and find a long, narrow hallway with several doors along the far wall.
Moving first to check the single door on their own side they find a non-descript lavatory. From its condition they guess the complex in which they stand is indeed occupied and by at least several persons. Peeking into the double doors at this end of the hallway they are surprised to find a large room with two tables littered with maps, note and books. After only a cursory examination they can see these things detail the activities of the Doppelgangers who've abducted them. Though it will take far too long to go through all of the material, the team makes note of it to come back to later.
Back in the hallway they next try the closest of the four side doors. Toerag is again unable to pick the lock, despite a time consuming effort. Hearing nothing beyond they set Copper to work burning through the locking mechanism altogether, a process taking well over two minutes. Once they enter they find two small human children waiting anxiously. Although the two quickly claim to be captives a quick glance around the room seems to belie that, considering the opulent state of their "cell". Beyond that the team is already on the lookout for Doppelgangers and these two certainly seem to fit the bill. Admittedly, though, the doors were indeed locked and rather well at that.
Faced with a sudden dilemma, being unable to accurately confirm or deny whether these two are indeed Doppelgangers, the team consults for a moment. Presently Toerag prods one of the two children forward and suggests to Rue that she try a Charm Person spell on it. Unaware that Doppelgangers are immune to such, Rue agrees that's a fine idea and does so. The Doppelganger in question seizes the opportunity, suddenly appearing more friendly and dropping its disguise completely. To the party's surprise it continues to insist that it is a prisoner and, in fact, that it and its friends are actually a small band of good natured Doppelgangers being held captive by an evil wizard and forced to do all manner of ill deeds against their will. It begs them to gather its mates and lead them all to assault the evil wizard and win their freedom.
Appearing quite earnest and giving no indication of deception the team eventually decides to go along with this for the time being, at least until they can gauge the situation better. Finding there are only six of them on this hallway (the last room being empty) they soon gather the small band of Doppelgangers together outside for questioning. This takes some time as Copper was forced to use his Dragon Breath repeatedly on the other two doors first.
When they are gathered together and all present the same story, begging piteously for the team to help free them from the evil wizard, the team finally agrees. Still, they insist the Doppelgangers stay in their cells while they go on ahead to do battle themselves. After some discussion the Doppelganger prisoners agree with clear reluctance and direct the team to the double doors at the east end of the hall. Beyond these doors, they say, is another hall at the end of which lies the wizard's lair, guarded only by a pair of ogres.
The team moves onward to battle the evil wizard and Copper immediately falls through the trap door at the east end of the hallway. He takes 21 damage from the fall and 20 from the four spikes that pierce him. The Doppelgangers immediately spring from their cells to attack.

With the two Doppelgangers having made their escape, the team moves back to the ones in the hall to look for survivors. The Pseudonatural Bison departs before they leave the room. Finding one Doppelganger still alive the team debates for a moment before they decide to just kill it before it can wake up and cause them any trouble. Toerag, ever the scout, would rather interrogate it for information but Copper and Rue can't bring themselves to trust anything the Doppelgangers might say.
Making a quick search (and looting) of the four rooms in the hall for anything of immediate interest, Toerag finds the wall in the last room is illusory. Stepping through they find a small chamber and a door to the southeast.
In the room beyond they find three chairs, each containing a bound kobold. The kobolds, they are surprised to find, seem to be exact replicas of themselves. The three captives immediately begin clamoring for release, each claiming their twin standing before them is an imposter.

Copper fetches his weapons and goes to check on Rue. Finding her stable he checks Toerag's restraints. Talking things over with Toerag he grabs a length of rope from his haversack and ties up the Doppelganger he just knocked unconscious. He then begins working on Toerag's manacles with his Breath Weapon, while running his Vigor aura. Toerag, ever the trooper, suffers through the searing pain. Rue, well within Copper's aura, recovers as well and soon pitches in with her wands to heal everyone up to full health again.
Searching the dead Doppelgangers, the team find a large sapphire on the ex-Toerag Ixiaxian. Rue finds the secret door in the south wall.
Having found the way out of the area, Copper kills his Doppelganger and the team moves through into the hallway beyond. Once through the doorway beyond Toerag checks both corners and the team soon realizes they've stumbled into a maze of some sort. Tossing a coin they decide to take "lefties" and head out to the left. Almost immediately a wall springs up from the floor, cutting Copper off from the rest of the team. Copper continues forward around the right turn in the corridor until he can see two turns, one to the left and one to the right. He waits there for Toerag and Rue to find him.
The two girls, meanwhile, make for the corridor to their right hoping to find Copper quickly. Toerag is also cut off by a rapidly rising wall. Opting to attempt a last-second leap back over the wall she fails and all the Kobolds are now cut off from each other.
Copper knows he's relatively close to the team so he stays put for a while longer. Toerag steps down the corridor she's in and soon she and Copper see each other. Rue, too, takes to the right and comes around to spot the both of them down the corridor south from her. Rue rejoins Toerag and they move together to rejoin Copper. As soon as Toerag is practically within reach of Copper, however, yet another wall springs up blocking them off from each other.
Again they follow the same procedure with Copper moving to the nearest intersection while Toerag and Rue do the same. They are together again in moments. This time they put Toerag in the lead and take their time searching each section carefully to avoid being separated again. After moving forward less than twenty feet Toerag catches sight of a Doppelganger around the corner, crouching in wait for something and facing the opposite direction. She immediately sneaks forward to attack.

The teams moves to loot the bodies and heal under Rue's wand, quickly moving out before they encounter any more trouble. Following their standard procedure, this time with Toerag leading the way searching for traps and sliding walls, they are separated only once more and only for a moment before finding a door out of the maze.
Stepping through the door they find an odd device to their right and to their left a dais supporting a throne nearly 30 feet way. Sitting on the throne is none other than Allustan who stands and greets the Kobolds, "So kind of you to join me. It is time for me to show you the truth of things. Come and learn what lies beyond."
Deciding to hold their fire and see what "Allustan" has to say, the team moves forward toward the throne (hoping also to get within attack range in the process). Toerag then triggers and barely avoids the pit trap at the foot of the dais. Telakin immediately begins weaving a spell...
1)
Rue moves out of line of sight with her team and casts Lightning Bolt at Telakin. He makes his Reflex and is hit for 12 damage. His Resist Energy (electricity) spell reduces this to 2 damage.
Copper decides to take his chances with running into more traps. He moves quickly around the pit trap and up the dais steps, running straight into the poison spear trap, 13 damage. He makes his Fortitude save vs. poison.

Once Telakin has fallen Copper checks Rue and is surprised to find her stable despite how badly burned she is. Toerag is still on the opposite side of the Wall of Fire so he decides to stay put until she comes to her senses. Hopefully by then the wall will have burned out. He spends the time waiting checking Telakin for anything of interest and binding him firmly with rope and manacles.
Once the Wall of Fire dispels and Toerag collects herself she works with Rue's healing wands again, managing to activate it and bring Rue around. Rue then heals the team and they set about exploring the area, looting everything of value. They then head for the Planning Room to go through the Doppelganger's records. After discovering just how deep the Doppelganger's have managed to penetrate into Free City's society and politics the team gather the various documents pertinent to this, sure of some manner of reward for the information.
Reaching the door to the Water Control Chamber the team opens it to find two black elves facing them...and standing before them, a monstrosity that can only be a mind flayer.

Once the two dark elves have fallen the team are quick to explore the new tunnel, finding it leads them to the Free City sewers. The fungus on the two elf's boots is hard to miss and they soon collect a sample of it for later identification. As Rue is short on spells, though, they decide they'd best get out while the getting's good.
Toerag waits for Copper and Rue to get down the tunnel before pulling the lever and hustling after them. They ride the water back up to the top and climb up the rope ladder. From there they proceed out of Sodden Hold without any more trouble. Finding that daylight has come they hit the nearby streets and soon make their way to Eligos' estate. After Rue arranges another meeting with him they show the documents they collected in the Doppelganger lair. Astounded, Eligos agrees to bring the information to the attention of those high-ranking city officials that aren't mentioned in the documents. The Kobolds wait at his estate (with Eligos' servants politely keeping an eye on them) while he goes to do so.
When Eligos returns, much later that night, the Kobolds find that all hell will soon be breaking loose in Free City as the corruption that the Doppelgangers sowed in the city is rooted out. They are pleased to find their own names officially cleared of wrong doing, though it's likely the common folk of the city may not know that. With all their gear currently on hand they decide not to return to the Crooked House and instead take rooms in the Grey Boar on the other side of town.
With Eligos still conducting his research and no word from city officials on what they intend to do about the mind flayer, the team decides they'll take that on themselves. They're still rather ticked off at having been kidnapped, tortured and nearly killed. Clearly the mind flayer is the real leader behind the Doppelganger gang and they intend to track him down and deal with him.
And, of course, claim all the loot as their own rather than leave it for the city.
