Roach Motel
Background: The Shadow Hunters were a group of eight private citizens who worked independently during the 80's and 90's to combat the incursion of shadow creatures in the tri-state area. As their association with Department 7 grew stronger the group's activities became more and more pro-active until December 1999, when they spearheaded a Department 7's strike force into the Shadowlands themselves.
None of them returned.
The children they left behind, ranging in age from 15 to 18, were placed in foster care or with distant relatives when their parents suddenly went "missing". Department 7 kept an eye on the second generation of Shadow Hunters and lent its influence covertly now and again out of respect for their parent's sacrifice. By and large, though, the children went their separate ways and lived their own lives. Each had only vague recollections of the strange and often terrifying days of their youth. Though they remembered each other well enough they rarely, if ever, attempted to contact one another.
By 2007, with still no indication as to their fate, the Shadow Hunters were all finally declared legally dead. With a reading of their collective wills scheduled on the same day by the same legal firm the surviving children, now grown with their own careers and individual lives, take the time to travel back to their hometown and attend the reading.
Charles "Crash" Johnson, April Wallace and Elisa Morales are the only ones to arrive. A little poking around reveals that Carol Westhaven had been brutally murdered two years prior in Los Angelos. Further, April Wallace is heartbroken to find that her brother Kevin, who she hadn't spoken to in well over four years, overdosed on heroin and died three years ago.
As for Joanna Westhaven and Amy Heseltine, both are still alive and well with Joanna working as an investigative reporter for the local newspaper and Amy holding a middle management position in a research company. Neither of them have shown up for the reading of the will and the representatives for the legal firm admit they haven't been able to contact them.
In time the PC's (Charles, April and Elisa) discover that they can hear the reading of those parts of the individual wills that deal specifically with them but that the group will written and signed by all eight members is to remain sealed until all the children are present or at least accounted for. Taking time to hear their individual parent's wills they discover they have been left little but platitudes and well wishes. However, there are strong hints that the group will leaves them, collectively, control of the mansion out of which the Shadow Hunters once operated. The mansion, they recall, holds a significant amount of artwork and a variety of artifacts that are sure to prove quite valuable in the right markets.
When pressed on the matter of the missing two heirs it soon becomes clear that the legal firm is in no particular hurry to track them down. It would seem that if the surviving descendants of the individual Shadow Hunters don't arrive to receive the will within a month the firm itself can lay claim to the estate. Fortunately the firm is rather divided on the matter, with only a few of the controlling partners willing to circumvent the will of their clients in such a way. Several of the mid and lower level employees of the firm are in fact eager to provide the three PC's with information on the two missing heirs and encourage them to seek them out, or at least determine their fate, before the end of the month.
Wednesday [10:00am-2:00pm / 2:00pm-6:00pm]
After meeting together in an adjoining room the PC's decide that a private detective service might be useful but making a passing attempt at discovering their missing childhood friends would be cheaper and probably quicker. Having gotten Joanna's current address from the lawyers already they decide to start with her.
The team arrive in their individual vehicles and head first for the apartment manager's office. There they find the manager's son who tells them he's out and won't be back until that evening. The PC's elect to keep the apartment under surveillance and wait for the manager.
Wednesday [6:00pm-10:00pm]
As evening approaches the team notices two men enter the alley behind the apartment building. They don't notice the manager arrive on the far side of the apartment grounds just a minute later. Exiting her vehicle, April sneaks to the alley entrance to spy on the two men. She sees them scale the fire escape up toward Joanna's apartment. Waiting to see what exactly they're up to she witnesses them place a jacket across the window and quietly break the glass then enter Joanna's apartment through the window. She reports back to the others.
The team moves quickly to check out the apartment manager's office again. When they find him there, just removing his coat to settle in, they inform him of what April witnessed. He immediately calls the police. When they ask him to use his key to let them into the apartment he refuses, stating that they should all leave the matter to the police. He uses the phone again intending to spend the next two minutes calling the neighboring tenants and warning them to lock their doors and stay inside.
Elisa attempts Diplomacy and successfully convinces him to speak to her first. She then Charms him into letting them into the apartment despite his misgivings that they might cause trouble or even scare the burglars away. The team follows the manager up to Joanna's apartment.
When the manager carefully and quietly opens the door, then scurries back to a safe distance, the team enters the apartment. They find one man (Jack) trashing the living room and he is not surprised. Frank, however, is in the bedroom and hasn't heard the PC's enter.
1)
Crash and April attempt to charge the thug (Jack) but he dodges them. Jack grabs the nearby television set and hurls it at Crash, missing. April draws her stun gun and moves to engage him.
2)
Frank, the second thug, steps into the room and yells to Jack that he's "got it", then dashes back into the bedroom and the window the two thugs entered by. Crash and April again attempt to attack Jack but he's just to quick for them. He turns and dashes into the bedroom after Frank, intent on making his escape. Elisa, too, attempts to get within range of her stun gun but can't catch him.
As the two dart for the broken window April notices Frank carrying an electronic component of some kind. Judging from the mangled state of Joanna's computer nearby she assumes it must be part of it.
3)
As the PC's dash after the fleeing thugs Frank climbs through the window out onto the fire escape. As Jack follows suite Crash, Elisa and April all pummel him. April then crawls through the window as well, intent on recovering that computer component. She is savagely beaten by the two thugs when they take advantage of her position in the window. Elisa climbs through and out onto the fire escape as well.
4)
As the police arrive in front of the apartment complex and exit their vehicle, unaware of the fighting going on high up in the alley, Frank begins climbing down the fire escape ladder. April attempts to kick him while he's vulnerable but misses. Elisa manages to jab him with her stun gun but he shakes off the shock and keeps climbing. Crash finally climbs through the window out onto the fire escape, taking a hit from Jack in the process.
As Jack finds Frank is finally out of the way he attempts his own retreat down the ladder and the PC's rain blows down on him. He is knocked unconscious and falls to the alleyway below.
5)
The two police officers, meanwhile, split up following their standard procedure for such calls. Once heads upstairs to find the manager while the other makes for the alleyway to check out the supposed point of entry. At the entrance to the alley way he spots Frank and the unconscious Jack in the alley as well as the PC's up on the fire escape.
At that point Frank pulls his 9mm and points it up at the PC's, warning them to back off. The PC's, having not spotted the police officer, all pull their weapons as well and likewise warn Frank to disarm.
6)
The police officer at the alleyway entrance draws his weapon, moves forward to cover behind the dumpster and orders everyone to drop their weapons. Meanwhile, the other police officer has arrived at the doorway of the apartment and is getting a brief on the situation from the manager.
Startled at the police officer's voice of to his left and already rather jumpy, Frank spins and fires, missing. The PC's each immediately holster weapon and throw up their hands, crouching to avoid stray bullets.
7)
The police officer naturally returns fire and scores a critical hit, dropping Frank stone dead. Responding to the sound of gunfire in the alley, the second police officer enters the apartment and the bedroom. Spying the PC's out on the fire escape he quickly covers them with his sidearm and orders them back into the apartment. They comply.
After several moments consulting with his partner in the alley below he soon finds that the PC's are armed. He seizes their weapons and cuffs them until backup arrives.
Wednesday/Thursday [10:00pm-2:00am]
After several minutes police are swarming the apartment complex and Jack has been taken into custody. The police eventually get the PC's story that they were investigating the disappearance of their childhood friend. After showing their gun licenses a successful Diplomacy check by Elisa gets their weapons returned to them.
After telling the officers what little they know they manage to find out that the device Frank was carrying was indeed Joanna's hard drive from her computer. It has been taken into evidence and the apartment itself is now off limits for the duration of the investigation. A separate attempt by Elisa to Charm the leading officer to allow them access to the apartment fails and the team is politely but firmly escorted outside and down the hall.
The PC's fall back to their vehicles and then take up position to keep the apartment complex under surveillance, waiting until the police have wrapped up their investigation. They wait until well after midnight before most of the local law enforcement officers seem to have left. Then they send April up to spy the place out. After several minutes she phones them from the apartment to let them know it's safe to come up.
Entering carefully to avoid disturbing the crime scene tape or leaving any evidence of their presence, the team searches the apartment for clues to Joanna's whereabouts. When they notice a local tourist's guidebook on the coffee table opened to an ad for the local campground as well as a brochure for the same on the refrigerator they decide to call the campground later that morning. A second quick look around turns up nothing compelling so the team takes pictures of the apartment from every angle before leaving.
Thursday [2:00am-6:00am]
The team gather together at Crash's hotel room and Elisa downloads the digital photographs of Joanna's apartment to her laptop. They call the local campground and find that Joanna is registered to one of the cabins there. They quickly load up their gear and head out in their individual vehicles.
Thursday [6:00am-10:00am]
When they arrive at the campground it's still rather early so the team hangs around until the office opens up. Elisa spends that time treating Crash and April's cuts and bruises from the last night's fighting. April is still in poor shape, though.
When they speak to the manager they find that Joanna only reserved the cabin for Friday and Saturday. Although it is now Thursday the manager simply shrugs and states that she never checked out, therefore he'll keep charging the room to her account for as long as her credit card accepts it. He's reported her missing to park rangers but since no missing person report has been filed with the police...
Crash immediately tears into the man, calling him a thief and castigating him for his unethical business practices. In the end Elisa convinces him to step outside while she deals with the man before he calls the police. Faced with a manager who is now Unfriendly Elisa puts forth her best effort (and an action point) to change his attitude to Friendly. She manages to get the key to Joanna's cabin as well.
Inside they find several articles of Joanne's belongings and most interestingly her laptop computer. April quickly sets to work on the computer (spending an action point) while Crash and Elisa search the cabin. In a file labeled "UmbraCorp" April finds dozens of digital photographs, all taken last Saturday night, showing a large industrial facility. A map of the campground and surrounding area folded up next to the computer shows a location marked in red relatively nearby. April estimates the team can hike to that location within 2-4 hours.
Crash and Elisa find a gym bag containing hiking clothes and various personal articles but little else. All the PC's notice the Jetta parked outside the cabin and assume it belongs to Joanna. The team gathers up all of her belongings and stow them in the trunk of Elisa's car. They then return the key and Elisa takes the opportunity to convince the manager to stop charging Joanna's credit card. With that they head out to hike to the mysterious Umbra Corp compound.
Thursday [10:00am-2:00pm]
The team arrives at a ridge overlooking the facility and take some time to observe. They spot the two guards and their dogs patrolling and time them, estimating that they makes their rounds every four minutes. After looking the place over the team decide it might be better to come back after nightfall, which would give them the opportunity to drive out here (most of their gear are in the trunks of their cars). The team looks the place over again in case they missed anything obvious then hike back to the campground.
Thursday [2:00pm-6:00pm]
Once they arrive they immediately pile into their cars and drive out to the highway. From there they take the dirt road that leads up to the Umbra Corp facility. When they estimate they've approached within a half mile they look for a place to pull off the road and conceal their cars. It takes quite a bit of time but Crash manages to find a suitable spot and the team spends the next two hours camouflaging their cars. Though they don't do a very good job they reason that it should be enough to pass notice from the road.
Looking over their gear they pick out what they feel will be useful, including handcuffs and lock picks. They decide to bring not only their handguns but rifles as well, reasoning that getting caught breaking into the place won't likely go much worse for them for being too well armed. They also pack ski masks and thin leather gloves for everyone in order to hide their identities.
Thursday [6:00pm-10:00pm]
The team moves around to the ridge where they observed the compound earlier. As it grows dark they monitor the patrol guards until they're ready to move in. As the guard and guard dog closest to them passes by April moves swiftly down to the fence to cut a hole in it. In less than a minute she has it done and signals the rest of the team. They move swiftly through the hole to the nearest building to hide from the second patrolling guard who's now approaching.
When the guard passes by and recedes as far as fifty feet the team decides to start their search for Joanna with the building they're crouching against. Listening at the eastern door Elisa can't hear anything inside and without any windows they can't spy it out before entering. Deciding to take their luck as it comes they draw their pistols and move into the room.
Crash enters first and immediately sees the building is a garage, sans vehicles. On a makeshift cot lies a woman, bound and gagged, who he assumes must be Joanna (she's faced away and it's been many years). Across from her is an armed security guard sitting in a chair with a red gym bag at his feet. He startles as Crash enters unexpectedly and reaches for his walkie talkie.
1)
Crash draws his stun gun and rushes forward to jab the guard. He is damaged but manages to avoid being stunned and whips out his radio. As he calls out a hasty warning to the other security guards April and Elisa move in to attempt to stun him as well.
2)
With the guard remarkably still standing and bound to go for his gun any moment Crash pops him again, managing to stun him this time. April and Elisa forgo their stun guns and simply pummel the fellow, hoping to knock him out.
3)
Unbeknownst to the team, the guard in the gatehouse has been monitoring the situation through the video camera in the garage and informs the other members of security that there are intruders there. The PC's hear this over the guard's radio.
As the security guards all around the compound scramble to respond Crash sheaths his stun gun and whacks the guard, knocking him unconscious. April and Elisa get to work freeing Joanna.
4)
Three guards exit the barracks, running full tilt for the garage while another of their number inside runs for the kennel to release the dogs.
Crash runs outside and immediately spots the guard with his guard dog near the fence nearby. He takes a shot at the dog, as he can see that the guard is about to release him on them. He scores an amazing hit and critical, dropping the poor mutt before it even gets loose.
April and Elisa can see that Joanna is free and getting shakily to her feet, so they run outside to help Crash. April trains her Desert Eagle on the guard who just lost his dog in case he goes for his weapon. He immediately does so and she fires, missing. Elisa likewise fires on the guard but misses as well.
Meanwhile, across the compound, the other guard and guard dog duo begin running for the garage.
5)
As the three guards from the barracks draw closer and the guard and guard dog across the compound continue sprinting, the gunfight between the PC's and the guard near the fence continues. Crash, April, Elisa and the guard all keep firing and manage to miss each other completely.
Meanwhile Joanna stumbles out of the garage looking a bit confused and the guard inside the barracks reaches the kennel's double doors.
6)
The three guards running from the barracks finally draw within 30' of the PC's and draw their sidearms, yelling out for them to surrender. The guard and guard dog across the way draw closer but still have a ways to go.
Crash and April continue firing at the guard by the fence but Elisa scores the hit and drops him at last.
Joanna stands around in a daze while, across the compound, the guard still inside the barracks flings open the kennel's double doors and moves toward the first dog cage.
7)
The three guards from the barracks all open fire on the PC's, one landing a slight graze on Elisa. Crash and April return fire, working as a team and focusing on the same target, but don't manage to hit him. April dashes back inside the garage to take cover in its vehicle bay entrance.
The guard from across the compound has finally drawn close enough to see the action and releases his dog so that its faster movement rate might bring it in striking range of the PC's more quickly. The dog tears lose immediately and sprints forward, eager to engage. Elisa fires on the approaching guard dog, hitting and scoring a critical that drops it dead instantly. She darts back into the garage to take cover in the smaller doorway next to the vehicle bay entrance.
Joanna inexplicably begins wandering away through the hail of bullets toward the large building in the middle of the compound.
8)
As the guard fire on the PC's one manages to hit Crash. While not quite life threatening the injury is bad. Crash returns fire and hits, dropping one of the guards. The guard hits the ground and immediately begins convulsing in a very peculiar manner. With both girls inside and out of the way, Crash jumps back into the doorway to take cover.
With the guards still firing on the PC's and only Crash readily visible he takes two more hits, despite being behind cover. Both are mere grazes but he's getting a bit anxious.
Inside the garage April yanks the vehicle bay door up and takes cover inside the entrance. Elisa likewise kicks open the smaller door to take cover there.
Across the compound Joanna reaches the larger building, opens the side door and staggers inside.
Inside the barracks the guard there releases one of the guard dogs and move toward another cage. The guard dog dashes out of the kennel, looking for trouble.
9)
As bullets fly back and forth April is hit by one of the guards and knocked out. She lays dying and attempts to stabilize naturally but fails. Elisa immediately rushes over, spending an action point to stabilize her but fails as well.
The convulsing guard outside suddenly explodes and, to everyone's surprise, a very large and utterly horrific giant pale cockroach rips its way out of the man's body in a gore-spraying mess to stand upright on two legs.
Though Crash sees this he nevertheless sticks to his target and scores a hit on the guard he's firing at. Of the two other guards one screams in sudden fright and fires on the giant cockroach, missing. His partner can only gawk for a moment at the giant cockroach that just ripped itself up out of his dead friend before opening fire on it and missing as well.
Back at the barrack the guard released another guard dog and moves on to the next cage. The first dog races toward the commotion he hears at the garage while the second rushes out of the kennel, spots him running and moves to follow.
10)
As if things haven't take enough of a turn to the bizarre, one of the guards suddenly turns and fires on one of the guards shooting at the giant cockroach. The giant cockroach, meanwhile, rushes after the other guard that's shooting at it and attacks, scratching him. Crash decides the big bug may the primary menace here and throws in with the guards, firing on it and landing a solid hit.
The first dog from the barracks arrives at last, spies the giant bug and skids to a halt with a yelp. Its partner behind is still racing ahead and has yet to see the bug. Back at the kennel the guard releases another dog and it, too, races out of the kennel.
The guard that the bug is attacking, though terrified, takes a step back and shoots again, disabling it. The remaining guard takes a shot and hits, dropping the giant cockroach dead.
The guard in the gatehouse finally gives up monitoring, leaves the gatehouse and sprints for the gunfight at the garage.
Inside the garage April spends an action point in the attempt to stabilize but fails. Elisa likewise spends an action point and still can't stabilize her.
11)
The apparently crazy guard continues to fire at his fellow security officers. Crash guesses that this might be another bug-in-human-clothes critter and fires, hitting him. The guard falls to the ground and, sure enough, begins convulsing.
Back at the barracks the guard draws his pistol and runs out of the kennel, having released all the dogs. The two dogs near him are still running for the action but the two who have already arrived are at a bit of a loss. Confronted with guards shooting at each other and an apparently dead giant cockroach they opt to bark and snarl at the dead bug until something better presents itself.
The two remaining security guards don't take any chances and continue shooting at the convulsing guard.
In the garage April spends another action point to stabilize and again fails. Elisa make her attempt again and finally succeeds, saving April's life.
12)
In a gout of blood and gore another man-sized pale cockroach rips its way out of the dead guard's corpse to stand upright. Crash and the two other guards continue firing at the bug but fail to land a hit. The two guard dogs on the scene immediately rush to snap at the giant bug with a third arriving dog pitching in. With a yelp one of the dogs takes a hit but manages to give a good mauling in return.
The guard from the kennel and the remaining guard dog are still running for garage. The guard from the gatehouse arrives as well and begins firing at the dogs attacking the giant bug.
Inside April is stable at last and Elisa works hard to restore some hit points to her. In the end she manages to heal her enough to actually bring her back to consciousness.
13)
The giant cockroach, surrounding by snarling and snapping dogs, makes a flurry of swipes at one of them, drawing blood. Crash and the two other guards continue firing with only one of the guards managing to breach the bugs chitinous hide. As the guard from the kennel runs up to gawk at the giant bug his dogs are attacking, the dogs themselves aren't having any luck bringing the critter down. Nevertheless the last dog has already arrived and joined in the fun.
The guard from the gatehouse continues shooting at the guard dogs.
As April shakily gets to her feet and takes cover in the doorway again, Elisa opens fire on the bug outside.
14)
The giant cockroach levels another flurry at the guard dog, this time ripping into it and killing it. As Crash, the three guards and all the dogs continue attacking none of them manage to hurt it the least bit. In the doorway of the garage, however, April squeezes off a single shot and drops the giant bug dead.
The two guards immediately turn their weapons on the gatehouse guard, demanding to know why he was shooting at the dogs. When the gatehouse guard fires at one of them they both open fire on him.
Elisa suggests to April and Crash that they simply go get Joanna from wherever she's wandered off to and get the hell out of there while the guards are busy shooting at each other. She heads out the door where Crash has taken cover and makes for the large building nearby.
15)
As the three guards continue firing at the gatehouse guard Crash dashes off after Elisa, toward the large central building. April follows soon after, as best she can in her wounded condition, and sees the three guards finally drop the gatehouse guard. The guard hits the ground and begins convulsing. Having learned their lesson the guards keep firing into his corpse.
The guard dogs, meanwhile, are again at a loss with both giant bugs dead and the guards all shooting at each other.
16)
In another spray of blood and gore a third giant pale cockroach rips its way out of the fallen gatehouse guard's corpse. As Crash catches up with Elisa at the door of the central building and opens it the guard dogs dither and yelp, uncertain what to do. One of them spots Crash, however, and decides he needs a good chewing. It rushes over and receives a couple of kicks from the two PC's when it draws near.
Surprising everyone yet again a huge swarm of nearly fist-sized cockroaches pours through the door Crash just opened and swarms over him, biting him. April, lagging behind a bit in her wounded condition, veers away and calls out to Crash to lead the swarm into the gunfight near at hand. Hopefully he can lose the swarm amongst the other targets.
The three remaining guards open fire on the giant cockroach amidst them, none of them hitting.
The guard dog who targeted Crash decides the cockroach swarmed man isn't such a tempting target after all. He lunges for Elisa and rips into her savagely. She falls, unconscious and dying.
17)
The giant bug that just tore its way out of the gatehouse guard moves after one of the guards firing on it, unleashing a flurry of swipes that cut him up terribly. Crash, meanwhile, is overcome with nausea and horror but manages to stumble toward the guards nearby. The guard dog that dropped Elisa leaps back from the swarm of roaches and chases after him.
The other two guard dogs each leap for the giant bug, failing to do any damage and only getting scratched for their trouble.
The roach swarm, meanwhile, moves for the closest target...Elisa. It swarms over her, biting her unconscious body mercilessly. April, stuck roughly in the middle of all the action, decides Elisa is her main concern. She fires into the swarm hoping to disperse it.
Elisa, meanwhile, miraculously manages to stabilize, though that could quickly change if she's injured again.
18)
As the giant cockroach rips into one of the guard dogs, badly wounding it, Crash takes a staggering step and fires into the roach swarm as well. Amazingly he manages to disperse it and the individual bugs break off heading for whatever nook and/or cranny they can find. The guard dog chasing after him, however, is unimpressed and lunges for him. Landing a vicious bite he knocks Crash unconscious, leaving him dying outside the central building.
The other two guard dogs, meanwhile, manage at last to bring the giant cockroach down. As the two guards finally catch a breath April opens fire on the guard dog that dropped Crash and kills it. The guards turn their weapons on her and demand she surrender.
With her teammates both down, herself badly wounded and outnumbered three to one (not counting the three guard dogs) April opts for a long shot and attempts to bribe the security guards. Despite her poor Diplomacy skill she is extraordinarily lucky and bumps the guard's Hostile attitude to Indifferent. They accept the cash she offers and tell her to get her friends on their feet and get the hell out of there.
The guards themselves are understandably upset and bewildered at what has just occurred. Though the PC's don't know it the Shadow effect is already at work in them as their minds try desperately to develop some reasonable rationale for what they've witnessed.
April, meanwhile, wastes no time dashing to Crash's side and attempting to stabilize him. She finds he's stabilized naturally so she attempts to Treat Injury and restores some hit points, using her last action point. She succeeds, restoring 3 hit points. Enough to bring him around and get him on his feet again. Together they do the same for Elisa but aren't able to bring her to consciousness again.
While Crash tosses Elisa over his shoulder, April moves very carefully into the large building to see what became of Joanna. She finds no more roach swarms waiting to come after her but there are plenty of roaches scurrying around. The entire building apparently consists of the one room and contains mounds upon mounds of garbage as if someone has been carting in refuse from the local landfill. Out amidst the trash April can easily see at least three more of the giant roaches ambling around as well as four very dirty people. Among them is Joanna.
As she watches, crouching just inside the doorway, she can see Joanna and the other four people there eating hungrily from the trash. Moldy bread, rotten meat and various unidentifiable things are gorged upon by the handful. April quietly leaves to report to Crash before she gets sick.
After discussing the matter for a moment Crash and April decide to get while the getting's good (and before the guards realize there's nothing stopping them from shooting them now that they've already collected their bribe). They quietly head out for the fence and leave the compound.
Up on the ridge overlooking the facility April connects her caller ID defeater to her cell phone and makes an anonymous call to the local police. She reports gunfire and claims to have witnessed someone murdered, giving the location of the facility, and then disconnects. The PC's watch the facility below while they wait for the police to arrive. Meanwhile Crash works to revive Elisa and eventually succeeds. She's still at -1 hit points but she is able to stand on her own.
The police don't arrive on the scene for more than an hour, during which time the team watches the security guards report to someone in the farthest building. Almost immediately they're scrambling into their Barracks building and there are signs of activity for some time. Just before the police cruiser arrives the PC's are surprised to see the various guards and one man in a suit from the far building climb in their vehicles and leave the compound. Moments later the buildings begin to smoke and finally to burn fiercely.
When the police officers finally do arrive they find the compound buildings ablaze and begin talking into his vehicle radio, clearly reporting in and requesting fire department assistance. Deciding that the situation will soon get too hot for them to stick around without being discovered, the PC's sneak back into the woods and head for the their vehicles. With the police sure to find Joanna in the complex for them they figure their mission is accomplished, or will be soon, and they head back to the hotel.
